It’s time for a d/Deaf and disabled peer support and advocacy group in South-East Queensland.
In the arts sector, disappointment happens often. There’s a lack of funding or physical resources, and the limited opportunities are usually granted to those with a track history of success. So what do you do when the industry you want to build a career in is not just difficult to enter, but inaccessible too?
There is a real need for peer support and advocacy for d/Deaf and disabled artists in South-East Queensland. We all know that disappointment comes with the territory of being an artist, but what do you do when discrimination is the barrier?
With that in mind, it’s time to step up and support each other. We need a movement. Will you join us?
I’ve started a Facebook group to hopefully start the conversation, bring us all together and start our own movement. Queensland Disabled and d/Deaf Artists Network is a group for all d/Deaf and disabled artists across all art forms to come together and discuss opportunities, projects, collaborations, seek advice, and discuss current and pressing events in our sector.

Get Involved
If you are an artist, an arts worker, a teacher or arts educator - we need you!
It is important that any movement towards improving accessibility and opportunity for d/Deaf and disabled artists in Qld adequately represents the best interests of the diverse community.
I would particularly like to encourage Indigenous, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, and LGBTQIA+ d/Deaf and disabled people to get involved. It is important that everyone is represented. This group will be about ‘passing the mic’ to those who have the authority to speak on their experiences. It’s time for authentic, powerful, supported advocacy for all.
